Former Boy Scout disagrees with decision to let girls in organization

"That they'll get to have the experiences that the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts have been having", says Venturing Advisor, Maddy Kangas.

The expansion of girls' participation, announced Wednesday after unanimous approval by the organization's board of directors, is arguably the biggest change yet, potentially opening the way for hundreds of thousands of girls to join.

The Boy Scouts announced that girls will be able to join Cub Scout programs, nationwide, then work up the ranks.

"I think this is a bold move and the right thing for young women and we will still be able to do the right thing for young men", said Stone. "But now if I have girls in there, I may not be comfortable to talk to my leader about that", Crump said.

Starting in the 2018 program year, families can choose to sign up their sons and daughters for Cub Scouts.
