Manchester United were interested in hiring the services of French worldwide and Atletico star Antoine Griezmann in the summer transfer window but the highly rated playmaker ended up agreeing a new deal with the Spanish club.
The French worldwide has a release clause at Los Rojiblancos of €100m - reduced from €200m after 1 July, 2018 - and according to El Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana are keen to tie up a provisional deal before the World Cup begins in Russian Federation. But the cosmic amount is set revert back to its original value after the deal expires on July 1, 2018.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Paris Saint-Germain forward is keen to see the Ligue 1 giants sign Griezmann next summer to avoid his worldwide team-mate moving to Old Trafford.
If a deal isn't done then Griezmann's buy-out clause rises to an incredible £178 million.
It was claimed Barca wanted Griezmann to play alongside Messi and form a partnership under Ernesto Valverde.
The fourth and fifth batches of nominations released by award organisers France Football included Barcelona star Messi and Atletico Madrid's Griezmann, who finished second and third respectively in 2016.
If Barcelona did make an official offer for the 26-year-old, however, it could likely spur United into action with Jose Mourinho also hugely keen on prising him away from the Iberian peninsula.
Griezmann has made 167 appearances for the Rojiblancos so far, scoring 86 goals and assisting in a further 26.
